Why Is One Migration Story Not Enough?

The ORSAM field study and the doctoral thesis on place names show that Lebanon’s Turkmen do not fit one origin story. Akkar’s villages, Bekaa communities and later families in Tripoli did not follow the same historical route.

Origin narratives should therefore bring oral history, archival documents, language evidence and local history together, preserving differences as carefully as similarities.
